The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is seeking public input on designated Priority Neighborhood Decarbonization Zones and will consider that input, with a particular focus on equity, as utilities host spring information sessions about the utilities’ emerging voluntary neighborhood-scale electrification program. Under Senate Bill (SB) 1221, the CPUC may approve up to 30 cost effective pilot projects in these zones— each requiring at least 67% property owner consent and with participation by affected customers—with the aim of replacing planned gas investments with cost-effective and affordable zero emission alternatives and, where successful, potentially relieving the gas utility of future service obligations in the project area.
Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) is hosting this virtual public information session to hear directly from community members about neighborhood decarbonization and SB 1221.
